Unity Game Engine Support for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8

Today on their official blog, game engine designer Unity announced that the latest update to their game engine, Unity 4.2, ads support to three new operating systems.

Specifically, those new operating systems are Windows Store, Windows Phone 8, and BlackBerry 10. When they say Windows store, they are actually referring to two new operating systems: x86 Windows 8, and Windows RT. This announcement has been met with excitement across the board. Unity provides a very powerful free version of their game engine and a pro version.

Along with the announcement of the new operating systems, Unity also announced simultaneous publishing across all supported platforms and new graphical effects in their free version.

Temple Run 2 on Windows 8

Many popular iOS and Android games, like Temple Run 2, use this engine. Making it simple and easy to port to Windows 8 at no additional cost means developers will have little work to do to make their game available to many more people.
